From "Thumbs up, thumbs down" Opinion feature

THE NEWS-TIMES
"Thumbs up to the Nature Conservancy's interest in preserving
the remaining green spaces in Fairfield County. The conservancy
is working with the state, local communities, and private individuals
to preserve large tracts of the landscapes that for too long have
been taken for granted. Focusing on northern Fairfield County, property
in southern Danbury, Ridgefield, Redding, Bethel and Newtown has
been targeted. With Tarrywile Park in Danbury preserved, the state
planning to purchase the water utility land owned by Kelda, and
the Devil's Den Preserve protected in Weston, great progress is
being made. Bethel needs to join the movement by adding its undeveloped
property known as Terre Haute, once targeted for a golf course,
to the list of protected green space. These protected lands preserve
water supplies and ease the burdens of development."
